Sundowners

Posted by cmgaylard on February 6, 2021 at 8:50 AM

‘I carry the sun in a golden cup. The moon in a silver bag.’ W B Yeats. The full moon a couple of days ago was so large and lovely that I made a detour from sunsets and put it on a glass ring.

Imbolc

Imbolc sunset and the sort of mud that makes walk in the fields like an extreme sport.

Birthdays

Dedication and attention to detail! Among my January orders, a Dad tracked down the (particular) glass ring he saw his daughter admire in an October exhibition.

The morning sun came out to play, a week of winter sunsets! Work in progress: ‘Sundowner’ glass cocktail rings.

Sunset

My favourite glass sunset so far, alas too small for me - and Jan 29th's sunset the day before.

I'm a bit late updating here, it's been a busy time and I can only do my website from a PC so I fall behind my Facebook and Instagram posts - but here goes... How to tell if the exhaust is drawing off properly.

Glow

Posted by cmgaylard on January 30, 2021 at 9:00 AM

Two more glass, sunset rings. I think I’ve made my favourite today but will have to wait until tomorrow to see. As soon as I’ve finished sculpting I place the glowing (but no longer molten) piece in a kiln to anneal overnight. This makes them strong and makes the morning (usually) a pleasure and a surprise.

Silhouettes

Posted by cmgaylard on January 30, 2021 at 8:55 AM

Yesterday’s daily walk prompted me to dig out a childhood favourite: Joan Aiken’s ‘The Kingdom Under the Sea’ with its intricate, sinuous illustrations on marbled papers by J...

All the colour is in the sky, or on my workbench. Sundowner cocktail ring.

I’m making Sundowner cocktail rings to reflect these glorious winter sunsets.

Ecosystem

A small world of a pinecone from the hedgerows.

Mud

Posted by cmgaylard on January 19, 2021 at 2:00 PM

Well all that ethereal snow lasted for a hot minute. What we do really well around here (Suffolk) at the moment is water and mud. This is my equivalent of making lemons into lemonade - experiments by request for a muted and organic palette.

Remains

Today: the tiniest hedgerow relic I’ve discovered so far. A slight gust of wind took it off my hand.

Snow Day

Winter’s response to my workbench spring-cleaning, sadly thawing already.

Chores

Posted by cmgaylard on January 18, 2021 at 6:15 PM

Home workbench spring-cleaning sorting and exhaust-system maintenance completed (fixed it myself) as a ritual to encourage spring. Feeling cautiously optimistic as I don’t need a new ventilation fan and there is still light in the sky at 4.30pm.

Spring

Posted by cmgaylard on January 18, 2021 at 6:10 PM

I’m 2/3 through #springcleaning just the SURFACE of my home workbench. Time to look at something inspiring from other springs: Venice 2019 and the remaining 1/3 or so of workbench....

Winter Sky

Posted by cmgaylard on January 14, 2021 at 6:55 PM

A swing tucked neatly away for the winter. Tuesday's Suffolk sunset as it was a beauty - and there wasn’t one yesterday and I don't think we are going to have one today!
