February

Posted by cmgaylard on March 17, 2022 at 8:15 AM

Seed pods, glass cabachons and receptacles for the spring. A Valentines Day post: ‘Love is anterior to life, Posterior to death, Initial of creation, and The exponent of breath.’ A #glass crown ring for Amour de Soi. King and Queen reliquary pendants for the wheel of life. A Sacred Heart vessel with sprigs of parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme, thanks as usual to Emily Dickinson for the poetry. A rather complicated Berry commission completed and a visit to Francis Bacon at the RA. Prism rings for Pride History and Ai Wei Wei at Kettles Yard.

International Women's Day

‘A Dove Has Spread Her Wings and Asked for Peace’ by Ukranian artist Maria Prymachenko (of whom Picasso said: "I bow down before the artistic miracle of this brilliant Ukrainian.").

January 2022

Posted by cmgaylard on February 22, 2022 at 1:20 PM

Highlights! Back to the workbench after a spring-clean, full posts on Facebook or Instagram. Some transcendent weather along the coast. Two exhibitions: Gold of the Great Steppe in the Fitzwilliam, Cambridge - tiny marvels. Grayson Perry The Pre-therapy Years at Sainsbury Centre, Norwich: marvels of frankness, experimentation and surface pattern. A Tiger Eye ring for Year of the Tiger and the William Blake poem, The Tyger. An egg for a Wolk Moon.

Best Nine 2021

Posted by cmgaylard on December 31, 2021 at 12:55 PM

There is an App that delivers your nine most popular posts on Instagram in the form of a collage. I decided to take matters into my own hands when my most popular posts one year were photos of a tree and a passionflower - that I most certainly did not make. These are nine I have chosen and in my defence, it wasn't easy, I've had a prolific year and given myself permission to move with the seasons. To work more in a state of Flow, none of my fossil glass that spanned spring and summer is here, but you will find it on my gallery page.

I'm sorry to have been lax about my blog, it has been down more than up as Webs were bought out by Vistaprint, my main focus is now on Instagram which is all ease (gratis) and quality, I also maintain a page on Facebook and post to both very regularly. I have had this website since I built it in 2008, and am reluctant to go/move - but it could be time to switch things up. If you have followed me or returned thank you! I hope the past two years have not been too hard and that we are all in for smoother and happier times in 2022. Happy New Year and all the best, Clare

Appreciation

Posted by cmgaylard on December 13, 2021 at 11:35 AM

With appreciation for all the folks who came by for my Open Studio. Plus major thanks for the comments, queries, compliments, interactions and exchanges that occur online from those that can’t. Thank you for engaging with what I make! I’m using a wide-angle (.5 reverse zoom) photo of my studio in one of these photos FYI, because it's so enjoyably ridiculous for recording such a small space. I think of it as The Estate Agent setting.

Suffolk Craft Society at The Guildhall

Done and dusted, I managed to have some time in these rooms alone to set-up and take photographs, what a mood.

Suffolk Craft Society at The Longshed

Posted by cmgaylard on August 14, 2021 at 7:35 AM

July 2020, The Longshed sits above the ongoing rebuild of the Sutton Hoo, Viking Dragonship, leading hanging in this vast, airy space was a pleasure - and a challenge as it was the first time it had been used as a gallery on this scale.

Foraging

Foraging on the beach, hoping it’s fennel and not some deadly look-alike.

Waves

Posted by cmgaylard on July 17, 2021 at 1:40 PM

Rolling Waves, buoyant and blue, glass ring at The Longshed Woodbridge Riverside Trust with Suffolk Craft Society this July.

Roman Tomb

Posted by cmgaylard on July 17, 2021 at 1:35 PM

Throwback Thursday: Roman Tomb #glass - reading articles about excavations and seeing wonderful artefacts laid out in museum cases as a child. Getting my studio sorted out for workshops and easily distracted. A story shelved for something else but with possibilities.

Moon Daisies

Posted by cmgaylard on July 17, 2021 at 1:20 PM

I always knew these as Marguerite but a friend calls them Moon Daisies and that’s very pretty too, they are everywhere this year.

Pine Cone

Posted by cmgaylard on July 17, 2021 at 1:20 PM

Winter-found pine cone in an expansive summer mood. Wondering how much nest, stones and shells I need to move in order for more folks to eat outside. Excited at the prospect of visits from various branches of close family I realise we haven’t seen in person for around two years. Hoping there are other (cautious) and happy catch-ups going on for everyone!

Necklace

Fossil necklace with faceted chunks of #glass beads that shift and click like ice cubes. Made for The Longshed with the Suffolk Craft Society this July.

Fossil Hunting?

Posted by cmgaylard on July 17, 2021 at 1:15 PM

Find my #glass at The Longshed with Suffolk Craft Society until 25th July. I make different sizes of a ring when I come to a design I really enjoy. Since I’m working with striking glass and silver leaf, each one yields shifting highlights and subtle differences. Find an article about my processes in this summer’s edition of About Fram.
