Test pieces for a (now completed) miniature commission to mark fifty years together - contradicitions of scale. I went with some strong suggestions from the client and a bit of Sir Phillip Sydney:

Setting up with other Suffolk artists tomorrow for this annual, weekend fundraising event for a lovely, medieval church, always a bit of a lighting and stability challenge but charmingly so..... The opening event is open to all - Friday 16th 7-9pm then open Sat&Sun 10am -5pm. IP17 2DA

The Summer Exhibition came down over the last couple of days - that might imply it wasn't a huge undertaking, it was fascinating to be involved at both the set-up and break-down. Some of my work has just gone to Gainsborough's House for the month of September - a wonderful gallery/museum desintaion.

Walking at Iken today - uncommonly lovely, common lizards - basking all along the fences.

We liked the way the shorelines around Skara Brae were dotted with miniature cairns.

Some more of my hagstones for Aldeburgh, quickly photographed them on the seawall and was approached by enterprising kids selling stones from the beach. The Suffolk Craft Society Summer Exhibition runs through to late August.

Out past Sutton Hoo at Ramsholt for crabbing - a warrior with a micro-city on his back. All crabs returned to the waters having polished off the bait.

I was on the 'Show and Tell' table at the Summer Exhibition on Sunday - not able to fit a torch session in - but it gets pretty hot by the sea and under gallery lighting. When I looked at my photos I was amused to see my frit pot (crushed glass) taking a central role. It's a three-legged mustard pot with a plastic spoon and a complete interloper amongst all the finely-crafted and handmade. 

Is up and running until 28th August, just off the sea front and with two excellent fish&chip shops a stone's throw away.

I've been sitting on the floor carefully chipping off paint splashes with a blunt stanley-knife blade all morning. This week has been all about setting-up. Private view tonight and opening tomorrow.

The contrary nature of photography - the huge, harvest moon that comes out the size of a pinhead, the hare ten feet away that looks as though it's in the next field.

Our attempt to get into the Hokusai exhibition at the British Museum last weekend (without booking) did not succeed so we took in the Japanese gallery instead. I'm seeing a dozen or so hares every evening I'm out walking at the moment but have given up trying to catch a photograph - here's a happy substitute that would fit nicely into the palm of your hand.

Some of the wheat is already in, some still fairly green, so the landscape keeps changing.

A family wedding in Wales near Cardiff, the bride's painting of a lighthouse and my glass figures made for the top of a red&white 'Lighthouse' wedding cake which made the journey with us. My first visit to Wales - and after the relief of depositing the cake in its appropriate parts - what a lovely way to do it!
