Botanicals on the workbench! A big thank you to everyone who attended my Art for Cure Masterclass, and Simon Turner for organising the series. The BLOOM event continues until 21st March on the AFC website with botanical art, creative gifts and amazing raffle prizes for the Blossom Appeal. Most of us know one or more people who have had to summon up the courage to deal with breast cancer, usually while managing the many demands of family life at the same time. A wonderfully creative approach to an important cause.

I had to collect some things from the aldeburgh_gallery today - closed in Lockdown but with a window of work for sale. Aldeburgh empty, cold, shrouded in mist and very lovely - the Martello tower and Antony Gormley sculptures on the beach subsiding into the stones.

Tool making - actually not so much making, as removing elements from other objects and reassembling/repurposing them. These holding rods will never look as shiny again after a stint in the kiln.

If you love colour, words, flora & fauna and history then this small book IS the perfect armchair voyage during lockdown. Werner’s Nomenclatures of Colours: ‘The book Charles Darwin used to describe colours in nature on his voyage on the HMS Beagle’. Some greens to inspire and encourage the spring. Published by the Natural History Museum.

Hearts & Bones Marginalia glass rings: a cycle of love, loss and new life sculpted entirely in the flame. The medieval marginalia I’m looking at resonates with the imagery of tarot cards and the current prevalence of tiny, icon-like tattoos - tattoos also serving as memorials. Marginalia having connotations of being ‘marginalised’ and on the periphery, while teeming with tiny archetypes and small ciphers - if we look closely. My rings have been described as travelling art, these rings are in the realm of travelling shrines. The little ‘me quare’ jotted at at the base of a page of the ‘Tres Riches Heures’ translates as: why me? Find bookings for my Zoom Masterclass on the Art for Cure website

Spring ring triptych in glass - the trailing foliage of medieval marginalia with the blue sky and deep, clear waters of a spring day. If you would like to see my process AND support an important cause, I will be delivering a Zoom Masterclass for the breast cancer support charity Art for Cure in March. Booking details on their website.

Yesterday’s bee rescue prompted me to dig this experiment out. A very early attempt at a bee is hovering just above the murrini flower. SPEAKING of flowers... I’m doing a Zoom Masterclass as part of the upcoming BLOOM event by the Suffolk breast cancer support charity Art for Cure I will spend an hour making a botanical glass ring in the flame - sharing this fiery and alchemical process for an important cause. I might make more than one... details to follow. Swipe for details - book for yourself or as a gift to a lover of glass and adornment via the https://www.artforcure.org.uk/bloom-masterclasses" target="_blank">AFC website. Thank you Debbie for the delivery of props such as pinecones, plants, seeds and other lovely sundries!

Evergreen trefoil, glass ring, love-token, life-token, based on the medieval marginalia of illuminated manuscripts. 23.5k gold leaf applied in the flame - the trick is not to burn it all off.... this deep and mysterious blue really glows in the light. Trailing Winter Beauty Clematis plant from the garden - until recently submerged in snow.
