Sea

Posted by cmgaylard on July 17, 2021 at 1:05 PM

An old sketch that flatlined but seems to work well with my current work - a long term love of circles and spirals, and the good fortune to be near the sea.

SCS Exhibition

Posted by cmgaylard on July 17, 2021 at 1:00 PM

Two full days of hanging (plus one day of wrangling display up the stairs which I wasn’t around for) and the Suffolk Craft Society exhibition at The Longshed in Woodbridge is up and looking fine. It’s been fascinating to see the work on the longboat going on below us and handling so much beautiful work. Opening today and running until 26th July - well worth a visit, the river Deben a stones throw away and Su...

Hidden Depths

Deconstructed totem.

The Longshed

Posted by cmgaylard on July 17, 2021 at 12:45 PM

A detail of the magnificent replica of the Sutton Hoo Viking Burial ship being built below us as we get ready for Suffolk Craft Society’s next exhibition at The Longshed gallery. This is my third #glass #fossil and seashore totem: Hidden Depths along with three small vessels for minute treasures, some of my work for the show.

Fields

Posted by cmgaylard on July 17, 2021 at 12:40 PM

Wheat in the fields, baby teasels in the hedgerows, sun, wind, rain and a slice of a rainbow on the evening walk. Something for everyone.

Cherry Blossom

Posted by cmgaylard on July 17, 2021 at 12:35 PM

Monday mood: cherry blossoms, a gold-flushed sunset and fragrant roses in the form of glass earrings, ring and vessel.

June 30th

Posted by cmgaylard on July 1, 2021 at 10:15 AM

These multicoloured and multifaceted #glass rings have only just coalesced. I will be selling them for £50 each and all proceeds from the first ten sales will go to MindOut and thereafter a percentage of any sales. If you are interested in knowing the sizes, scales and styles I make send me a message, I will also be putting more ...

Workbench

Posted by cmgaylard on July 1, 2021 at 10:15 AM

Thanks to everyone who came by for the Open Studio weekend and to Suffolk Open Studios for navigating complicated times to make it happen!

Fossils

Posted by cmgaylard on July 1, 2021 at 10:00 AM

A tiny Fossil vase for small but perfectly formed items, in this case buds from a curry plant. Thanks to everyone who came by my studio today as part of the Suffolk Open Studios Art Around Framlingham Trail, on again tomorrow 11am - 5pm. Sorry if we didn’t get much of a chance to chat!

Eau de Nil

Posted by cmgaylard on July 1, 2021 at 9:55 AM

Reception out at my studio is poor and I can only update here on a PC - I have just realised the whole Open Studio Weekend passed without a post here from me. There follows a retrospectve: Friday evening leaving my studio and feeling glad that the vast new neighbour is coloured eau de nil and not grey.

Fossil #2

Posted by cmgaylard on June 25, 2021 at 6:50 PM

Fossil totem #2, swipe to see it deconstructed into wearable parts. It’s a satisfying moment in creating a new totem, after some time sifting through multiple elements, when they coalesce into a happy visual balance.

Open Studios 2021

Posted by cmgaylard on June 25, 2021 at 6:45 PM

This weekend I’m on the Art Around Framlingham Trail and having done my first Open Studio in 2011 that’s a decade of Suffolk Open Studios for me. I always want to see ‘how’ and know ‘why?’, plus there’s nothing quite like seeing molten glass being sculpted in the flame - albeit on a reduced scale!

Handful

Posted by cmgaylard on June 25, 2021 at 6:45 PM

Small sunsets, planets, waves and raindrops by the handful. Take the weather (or a tiny microcosm of it in glass) with you. Find me for Suffolk Open Studios as part of the Art Around Framlingham Trail this weekend.

British Museum

Posted by cmgaylard on June 21, 2021 at 11:50 AM

First time back at British Museum in a year and a half! Medieval power struggles between church and state plus wonderful artefacts at their current Thomas Becket Exhib. With original stained glass windows, pilgrim badges and censored ...

English Summer

Posted by cmgaylard on June 21, 2021 at 11:45 AM

English summer = roses and peonies taking a battering from the rain. I’ve just out found the peony on the left is called Bowl of Beauty which seems fair - what a pleasure it is to have people around and online who know and remember the names of things.
