My studio is in the row of barns in Yew Tree Coutr that runs parallel to the main road. I#m open today and tomorrow 11am - 5pm.

I have my VERY OWN shrine (and an etched, anatomical heart brooch) made for my birthday, this is about as good as it gets. Somehow our eldest found time to make me a Vierge Ouvrante, knowing how much I love the medieval. It is 3D, hinged and stands up, and reveals the subversive image of a patriarchal institution held within the compass of a mother and child. This was a response to me asking for the following wonderful book for my birthday.

I tend to have lots of small passport-sized sketchbooks with soft covers, I get a few pages done every time I get to the British Museum, then I misplace the item. Neolithic inspiration for my Earth Mother and wonderfully strange Bird Women with earrings.

My blog is glitching at the moment so if there are any strange double posts that would be it. Some more of the work that went to Walsingham. I could work with this ivory colour all day, it's the application of fine silver that creates the wonderful stryations.

A very happy family event took place in Australia this week while many things conspired to keep me here. I couldn't go but look, Australia came to me! This is one of the most exciting, exotic and lovely parcels I've ever opened and each item is a wonder.

We have just packed down from another happy week at Snape Maltings, stepping out of the door to bask in the sun and enjoy the sound and smells of a tidal river. Now I'm getting repairs and unpacking done at my studio in preparation for workshops and June's https://www.suffolkopenstudios.org/artists/clare-gaylard/" target="_blank">Suffolk Open Studio season.

I prepared this page of a concertina sketchbook to work into - instead it serendipitously became my starting point for moving into a fluid pallette of pinks, a colour I find a little difficult. Lovely day at The Quay, catching up with old friends and meeting some new ones.

A landscape looking like a lollipop. One day until our exhibition at The Quay Gallery opens. Newly received rules give us an hour to set up an entire three person exhibition from scratch. A sort of curating trolley dash...

I realise that I'm always balancing work on two contrasting themes. One will be simple, abstract and relate to colour and form, the other will be complex, decorative and informed by a (frequently convoluted) story. I'm currently rewarding myself by adding to my 'Treasure in the Landscape' and enjoying every silver moment. It's about https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Warning_to_the_Curious" target="_blank">'A Warning to The Curious', Sutton Hoo and all our Suffolk treasures.
