It's a bit of a trolley-dash doing set-up from scratch in an untested format and opening the same day. It is for me anyway as I'm trying to create an atmosphere around my work that will encourage leaning-in and looking at fine detail. Fixing lights unobtrusively (!) and working round unexpected corners, lightsources or angles. Then trying to make sure the prices don't overwhelm the items.... Then imagine every other Maker also cherishing their work as though it were a Holy Grail and trying to do the same.

A person with glorious knee-length hair (probably a princess) came into the gallery and deftly secured it with only two hairsticks doing full justice to them on both practical AND aesthetic terms. Thanks for the photos Eleanor if you see this, enjoy them!

I'm afraid my blog is a bit of a poor relation now that it's the only format I can't operate by mobile phone. I'm on Instagram and Facebook with ease and regularly - but have sudden information drops of several posts at once here. I'm back from setting up at the Peter Pears Gallery with six other SCS Peers in Aldeburgh. We will be in the gallery until next Weds evening and it's looking pretty good. So is the sea, Covid measures in place.

'Shibui' a word/aesthetic that a Janapenese artist explained to me when I was curating an exhibition for her some fifteen years ago. Subtle, tranquil, unobtrusive. Other words that cometo mind from my father, he would say some occasions called for 'sub-fusc' clothing and I assumed it meant something similar, looking it up recently I find it means actually means brown!

Sensibly conducted studio visits, visitors bring me beautiful and apt objects.
