Splendid Tudor tomb at Hereford Cathedral.

Snow at Easter.

Holidays

Posted by cmgaylard on April 7, 2018 at 7:20 PM

My favourite hand-model is home for the holidays....

The Chained Library

Posted by cmgaylard on April 7, 2018 at 7:15 PM

Also at Hereford Catherdral: a room fragrant with leather, parchment and vanilla - filled with old books that might otherwise escape.

Easter

Posted by cmgaylard on April 7, 2018 at 7:10 PM

In Shropshire, floods, snow and sunshine. Visited Hereford Cathedral to see the Mappa Mundi and also found 'The Weeping Window'.

Deep Water

These are 'Deep Waters', about being on Orkney and looking across cairns at the scuttled ships in the Scarpa Flow.

All Too Human

Posted by cmgaylard on March 29, 2018 at 3:20 PM

At the Tate this weekend, our youngest chose Freud to study a portrait painting style - which totally works for me. Serendipitously found he was at Tate Britain - but definately with more nudes than they bargained for.

Mood Gothic

We are over these days when the sky is this colour from dawn to dusk. Around midday in London on Saturday.

Blackthorne Blossom and Blue Sky

At Snape Maltings today for a meeting and so was the spring.

Spring!

First day today and we are ready for it.

Ambulant works of art...

Posted by cmgaylard on March 16, 2018 at 2:05 PM

I liked the grey one best.

Hills

Posted by cmgaylard on March 16, 2018 at 2:00 PM

I know we have the sea and shouldn't be greedy - but I miss this sort of thing. A couple of inspiring days in The Cotswolds.

Honey!

Posted by cmgaylard on March 11, 2018 at 2:50 PM

I often compare this process to trying to keep honey on a knife or spoon.

Happy Mother's Day!

Posted by cmgaylard on March 11, 2018 at 12:50 PM

I was enchanted by this pregnant, German Madonna and she led me to the rich tradition of the Vierge Ouvrante. Happy Mother's Day to all mothers, would-be-mothers and those who take a mothering role. One of my Great-Uncles painted church statues but very much with the beauty standards of his era - I do prefer the medieval.

Spring Cleaning

Posted by cmgaylard on March 7, 2018 at 2:35 PM

Had a tidy in the hopes of encouraging Spring, got a snowstorm. Actually looking at this photo it was definately more of a tidy than a clean, that may be where I went wrong.

Beast from the East

Posted by cmgaylard on March 6, 2018 at 8:30 AM

The start of the snow last week, looking out of the window of a cafe just up the road at St Michael's - we haven't the kind of had snow that transforms the landsape since 2010, so it's beautiful but problematic.

Colourways

Posted by cmgaylard on February 27, 2018 at 9:40 AM

The wonderful lichen on this gravestone in Great Glemham churchyard caught my eye, it's right in the zone of ochre to eau de nil that I'm caught up in at the moment.

Gabriella Lane

Posted by cmgaylard on February 20, 2018 at 6:35 PM

Last December I met silversmith Gabriella Lane at Blackthorpe Barn, I was fascinated by her craftsmanship and distinctive personal style. So I was delighted to find that she used one of my vessels in on of her commissions. Amongst other things she creates remarkable boxes of artefacts that have been designed to capture the recipient's life & interests. http://gabriellalane.com/commissions.php

Print in Action: Diss

Posted by cmgaylard on February 18, 2018 at 6:35 PM

Friend and talented printmaker/teacher Annette Rolston ran her second 'Print in Action' day at Designer Markers 21 in Diss last weekend, taster print sessions and an exhibition of print across the road at the Corn Hall. We were able to do drypoint and linocut with experienced printmakers Mario Gonzales and Zelda Eady. Our youngest enjoyed the fact we worked with 'Mario' and 'Zelda' from a Nintendo POV. Well worth looking out for the next event.

Russia Season Norwich

Posted by cmgaylard on February 14, 2018 at 1:05 PM

We went to see The Russia Season in Norwich on its last day -I found there is such a thing as too much Faberge, nice contrast with 'Radical Russia' exhibits though. It was the small (Oceanic?) figure from the permanent collection that stole my heart, in what I took to be a relateable attitude of being overwhelmed....
