I was enchanted by this pregnant, German Madonna and she led me to the rich tradition of the Vierge Ouvrante. Happy Mother's Day to all mothers, would-be-mothers and those who take a mothering role. One of my Great-Uncles painted church statues but very much with the beauty standards of his era - I do prefer the medieval.
