We dropped in to see the BP Awards at the National Portrait Gallery and were quite excited - but it felt curiously lowering, skilled as ever but muted and sombre. It's been a difficult year in many ways and I wonder if this is a reflection of a prevailing mood. SO we went upstairs for some assertive Tudors - I always enjoy the swagger and finery. Time to take another look at Elizabeth's secret locket ring with portraits of herself and Anne Boleyn inside.
